Below are 5 quick tips on how you can motivate workers.
1. Introduce yourself on a personal level and leave your door oen.
Take time out each day to walk around and greet staff. If you hide behind a closed door most of the day, employees will not feel comfortable enough to come see you if they need your help. Leaving your door open is so much more inviting.
2. Employees not only like praise but they like to be praised differently.
Some like emails saying “thank you”, others like personal one on one praise and others like public priase. Knowing how to acknowlege staff makes a difference.
3. Another way to motivate workers is to have them feel ownership towards the company.
The more connected employees feel towards a company, the harder they will work for it. Get them involved by asking their thoughts and opinions on planning and decision-making. This way, they will feel responsible towards where the company is headed and feel ownership towards the company.
4. Let workers know that their skills are needed.
Even if its a small task, employees want to feel that their work is meaningful and important. Employees need to feel conected to the bigger picture and know that people are relying on them to do their part in fulfilling the comany mission.
5. Focus on their strengths.
Everyone has different strengths and skills that can benefit a company. Focus on those strengths and not so much the weaknesses — especially if it doesn’t affect their job. Too many managers look for what doesn’t work instead of the great work their employees do each day. You will get much more out of staff when you show them ways to improve their strengths and skills to help the company.
